In a world of myth and magic, Hanyous-creatures with the ability to transform into the animal of their bloodline-rule the lands. They live in peace with one another and learn the ways of nature and magic. Tides turned, and one day, a ship landed on the shore. The members aboard were not friendly...they attacked the villages, burning everything they could to the ground. The Hanyous tried to stop them. They fought back using their animals forms, but it was no use...the powerful race that had invaded were much stronger.
They were powerful...their numbers greater and their magic more advanced. They were merciless...women and children alike were killed along with any men that fought back. And they were evil...they began clearing out parts of the land and forest that weren't protected by ancient gaurdians, creating their own side.
Hanyous called them Magic-users and some of them joined thier side, becoming what their kind call Loyals. Loyal Hanyous could be spies, fighters, or warriors. They easily blended in with the rest of their kind and gathered information or killed off Hanyous the Magic-users wanted dead. Many-if not all-of the Hanyous fled into the depths of the forest. The ancient trees protected them and could tell the diffrence between a Hanyou or a traitor. Finally, after 2 years of war, a treaty was made. The fighting calmed, but never ceased.
Both sides live in subdued harmony. Tension is obvious from everywhere...the Hanyous and the Magic-users stay out of each others way as much as possible, however, squabbles and fights break out often. Sometimes, the leaders of each side must break these fights up. Every year, three advocates from each side go and meet in the Inobi desert. They make plans for strengthening the treaty and protecting the people within each side.
No one likes the idea of living 'peacefully' with their enemies, but the Hanyous put up with it, in hopes that one day, they can bring back their lost brothers and sisters...break them away from the influance of the Magic-users and bring them home. The Magic-users tolarate the treaty for one reason, and one reason only. They wait for the time things become so bad...that they can take over. The Hanyous will fall, they say...they will not survive forever, and the Magic-users wait for this day to come.
